Make Soy Milk Great Again!

So, I have been noticing a trend lately…and it is really starting to piss me off. What could it be, you ask? I am not easily piss offable..

Coffee shops not offering, or even worse, dropping soy milk from their menus. What the flip is going on? Who decided that house made cashew milk should be the ONLY non-dairy option. Aack! Even worse the shops that DROP soy milk and replace with oat milk. Oat milk? WTF??

The fact is, I have been vegan for a long time. In 1989, “alternative milks” was not a term. There was rice milk and soy milk. I think both existed primarily for people with dairy allergies. Both were average at best. I could choke down rice milk in my cereal but would drink my tea black for at least 10 more years. Both soy and rice milk would break if you poured them into a hot beverage, and that was just gross.

In the late 90’s, Silk arrived on my scene and was a blessing. I could pour it into my tea and it would not break and it added the creamy deliciousness that harkened me back to my childhood tea drinking days. Oh, so good.

A decade later, I finally started drinking coffee. I blame my husband. We were visiting my family in NH, when we stopped at a little local coffee shop. Matt ordered an Iced Soy Vanilla Latte. God that smelled good. I gave it a sip. Oh my..

Nowadays, when I am home, with my French pressed, sustainable, fair trade, locally roasted coffee, I pour in my creamy soy creamer. MMMMM! Delicious. Not one other creamer works for me. I have tried almond (too thin), coconut (too thin), Ripple (don’t like the taste). Blecch!

So, what is going on? Who on their high and mighty perch has decided that soy milk is not a good option for me? All of these same coffee shops are still offering all their crappy dairy options, right? But, not soy milk. People can still get their whole fat, half fat, low fat, and skim bullshit cow milk, but I can’t have my iced soy latte? It’s crap.

Guess what? None of those alternative milks you offer taste as good as soy milk. The cashew milk left chunks of cashew in my latte.. Yuck! Almond and coconut milks are just watery reminders of how much better soy milk tastes. Oat is ok, but only OK. Something is lacking. Oh, I know what it is, I PREFER soy milk. Why the hell can’t I get it anymore? It’s not an allergy thing, because most places offer nut milks (way more allergenic). Can’t be a production issue. U.S. grows tons of soy beans. Can’t be a GMO thing, Organic soy milk is available.

***Definition of Organic precludes items that are GMO***

So, what is going on with Soy Milk???

Bull shit.. It is just all bull shit.

Somewhere along the way, soy fell out of the good graces of this generation. Starting now, If I even go back to any of those soy dropping coffee shops, I will make a point to ask why the hell they don’t offer soy milk.  I want an explantion. I want my fucking soy milk!
